"Gender is not something we are born with, and not something we have, but something we do- something we perform." (286)
When you are born, you are either a boy or a girl. As you get older you do certain things in order to fit in to that certain stereotype. "This is where gender and sex come together,as society tries to match up was of behaving with biologically based sex assignments." (287) If you are a boy, you are usually put into soccer or basketball. If you are a girl your mom usually signs you up for cheerleading or dance lessons. I personally have always thought that gender is something we are born with and something that we have. Growing up, I was the typical girly girl who enjoyed dressing up, playing with dolls, and taking dance lessons. In my case I was performing my gender in the way that society brainwashes us to believe is the correct way of doing things. The same is for my brother, he played sports his whole life and was definitely considered a jock. Although there is nothing wrong with how my brother and I grew up, we were just going through the motions of playing our perspective gender roles.  I have always used the terms "sex" and "gender" interchangeably, because I thought they meant the same thing. However, "Sex is a biological categorization based primarily on reproductive potential, whereas gender is the social elaboration of biological sex." (287) Our sex is something we are born with but our gender is something that is up to us to decide. Every girl is not
required to get their nails done every weekend or to be a cheerleader. Every boy is not required to play a sport or love cars. Who we are as a person is completely up to us to decide. We do not have to mold into what society says we should do as a girl or a boy, because we are all unique. Why fit in when you were born to stand out??

"Nineteenth century advocates of white superiority endorsed meat as superior food. "Brain workers" required lean meat as their main meal, but the savage and lower classes of society could live exclusively on coarser foods." (331)
This is an interesting concept and is still relevant today, especially with what is going on in the news. White superiority is something that has been around for a very long time. It is defined as "a racist ideology centered upon the belief, and the promotion of the belief, that white people are superior in certain characteristics, traits, and attributes to people of other racial backgrounds and that therefore white people should politically, economically and socially rule"(dictionary) White Supeiority is very apparent with our newly elected president, Mr. Donald Trump. I believe that he is President largely due to the fact of white superiority and mindset that he is better than minorities. If President Obama said half of the things Donald Trump has said, has had half as many lawsuits, or even half as many kids by different women he would NOT have been the President of the United States for eight years. This mindset is one of the  things holding America back from true greatness. If everyone would realize that every race is
created equally in the eyes of God and that we should lift each other up instead of putting each other down a lot of conflicts could be diminished."16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him." (John 13:16)
